<div dir="ltr">I've encountered this before, and my solution as well was to set <span style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px">LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I pretty much dislike setting that.</span><div><br></div><div>
What's odd, however, is that /usr/local/lib actually IS in my library search path by default, as on most (all?) ubuntu installations.</div><div>This is reflected in: /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc.conf </div><div>

When you build a package from sources you're on your own and it's up to you to organise your environment. Running `ldconfig' program and anything of its ilk (i. e. modifying your system) is IMO up to package managers.</div>
