audio-recoder can show the recording pipeline as a gst-launch command. it also creates recording pipeline in c code where it carefully set various parameters like output filename, recording devices, audio profile and file format, etc.

There are a lot of Things you can't do with gst-launch, for example:
- listening and reacting upon for signals
- seeking
- having multiple pipelines
- having a gui interacting with a pipeline
If gst-launch floats you'r boat, you may not need something else.
