hal/pm-utils and laptop-mode-tools?

What's the general consensus regarding use of laptop-mode-tools on a
HAL- and pm-utils controlled laptop? l-m-t is not distributed in Fedora,
but a package (which is designed for use with acpid) is available at
samwel.net/laptop_mode. Its control script is terribly complex, and
makes me think for use with pm-utils it really should be split to
smaller components, as there really appears to be some overlap in their
functionality besides the core function of controlling vm/fs flush
parameters and kernel laptop_mode..
