Well, since the prober isn't doing the PIN handling, it wouldn't know
how many attempts.  Are you saying that the other thing (NM or whatever)
that tries to send the PIN should notify HAL when it's made another PIN
attempt?  Probably wouldn't be a bad thing to do.
