Access restriction for ssh'd login

Dear Martin,
dear listmembers,
ok, I've tried:

ck-list-sessions shows nothing on my remote login (?) on x86_64, nor as root,
neither as user. In contrast, it works on another machine using i586.

using polkit-auth --show-obtainable I get i. e.
org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner

ok, I said, let's do a

polkit-auth --user fred --grant org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner

well, the command seems to be processed - but nothing happens at all, and
access to scanner is not given.

If I do a polkit-auth --obtain org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner

I am asked for the root-password, I can choose whether I want access granted
for the current session only or for all sessions - but no effect, access to
scanner is not permitted.

If I try again I get

polkit-auth --obtain org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner
Attempting to obtain authorization for
org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner.
polkit-grant-helper: given auth type (8 -> yes) is bogus
Failed to obtain authorization for org.freedesktop.hal.device-access.scanner.

That's weird IMHO, isn't it?

Any ideas?

Thank you very much,
take care

Dieter
