<pre>I had forgotten to update the Nvidia driver on the Atom/Ion box which now
shows:
OpenGL version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.76
OpenGL renderer: ION/integrated/SSE2
GLSL version: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
GLSL vertex = 43.074 ms
GLSL fragment = 3.454 ms
GLSL linking = 120.391 ms
Looks as if Nvidia did some stuff to speed up their linker.</pre>
