<pre>Okay, so I just tried adjusting the backlight by changing the value in
'/sys/class/backlight/acpi_backlight0/backlight', and it had no effect.
Seems that the ACPI control for the backlight is the culprit, this would
explain why the FN keys fail to frob the brightness.
intel_backlight being a fallback, I imagine that during boot, the system tries
to set the brightness using the ACPI control and fails? I'll take a look at
dmesg and see what I can get out of it...</pre>
