I changed wallpaper and the color of the flashing stripe sometimes looks similar to the new background. If I switch to vt and back by [Ctrl+Alt+F1], [Alt+F7] when the external display is flashing, the monitor correctly goes to power saving regime. Unfortunately, only till the next cycle with [Fn+F8] hotkey.
