<pre>Ouch, it is just a fluke that plugging it in after X starts works. We get one
clean read of the EDID, and that just happens to correspond to X's query after
the hotplug event.
Who has the DP manual to hand and can check whether we have the retry alogrithm
correct? And may suggest which parameters might be worth varying?</pre>
