No the patches doesn't help. But booting into legacy BIOS mode seems to work.

Depending on how you've installed your system it can boot into UEFI mode or
legacy BIOS mode. I don't think you can force the Apple bootloader to pick BIOS
mode but perhaps you can with "refind". You can read some about Ubuntu and UEFI
vs BIOS here: <a href="https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI">https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI</a>
If you just wanna try it out you can download an Arch Linux image and install
it to a USB-stick. Plug it in and power up and hold down the "option" key and
you'll see it in the apple bootloader as a "Legacy device". I hope that helps.</pre>
