trying to set a lower res on the external screen and sure enough 1024x768 works
as does 1280x0124 but anything higher 1650x1050 or 1920x1080 again produces the
stream of those same error message in kernel.log and the sexternal screen goes
black. Switching between any of the lower resolutions does *not* produce the
error messages.
Really hope this can help point in the direction of what could be going
wrong...</pre>
