<pre>If you look at the log it happened anyway, just the desktop environment queried
the configuration so often that the fact that it failed once made no
difference. It reported the EDID at the vital time and so everything appeared
to work.
i.e. I don't think the problem was ever mysteriously fixed, just bad/good
timing.</pre>
