That caused the computer to shut down at the end of every boot cycle. So, I had to reinstall Mint and, in the process, the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file associated with the black screen when GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" is replaced by GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i915.modeset=0" was lost.
