This machine has been running arch and ubuntu for years. Migrating to pre-release versions of 14.04 introduced the bug. I tried mainline .13 and rc 6&7 of .14, all three have this bug. Didn't have it previously, it was on Ubuntu 13.10. I'll provide more detailed info and find a previous mainline kernel without the bug tomorrow.
