I did and I do get:
dmesg|grep taint

I thought "taints" were something to with using binary only (non gpl'd) kernel
modules but I guess this is something else since I'm running a mainline kernel
I built myself - as you say I'll google and try to educate myself on this.
And thanks for the suggested kernel params, I'll try them too.
Also would I be better off trying to compile from the drm-next branch instead
of Linus's master branch?</pre>
