<pre>That's scary. The immediate read of RING_HEAD after it returned 0 during the
first initialisation returns a non-zero value... It only just barely passed the
self-checks during module load. Just as importantly, it did not have the
pattern I was expecting.
I think we should try emitting a dummy command and seeing if the CS ring
updates.</pre>
