Bisecting it took me half a day and ended up pointing at commit [78f2975eec9faff353a6194e854d3d39907bab68 drm/i915]: Move all ring resets before setting the HWS page. As the title is the same as a patch posted here earlier, I suppose it is the exact same patch? It seems like what was meant to be a solution to the problem, actually makes it much worse (and maybe helps to find the root cause of it).
