<pre>Had a similar issue with KDE and the newest xorg-edgers update. KDE 4 would
hang on the loading screen as soon as the Skype login sound played.
I could login into KDE 5 because Skype wasn't autostarting there. Some
applications were working fine like mintupdate and Opera 12, others like Skype,
Firefox, Dolphin or Synaptic would lock up everything. When pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace I sometimes shortly saw the applications I started before
going back to the login screen.
Downgrading libgl1-mesa-dri to the ones supplied by Ubuntu helped to get my
desktop environments to work again.
apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dri=10.1.0-4ubuntu5
