which narrows it down to the use of the BackingStore. The only problem I have
is that iirc the BackingStore would have been available forever (certainly in
2.99.911) and it will always cause flickering (as the internal copy in X from
the backing store to the frontbuffer has never been synchronized).

If you could confirm that is was the "SDL-backingstore" option that was causing
the flickering, at least that only means I have one bug to worry about.</pre>
