I see no more "render ring initialization failed" errors, but there seem to be side effects, at least on my Thinkpad T400 (GM45, Debian stable). I noticed that mouse movement becomes sluggish (without applications open, didn't find the reason) and as a showstopper, my whole system froze. I coudn't get out of X with ctrl-alt-backspace, and when I tried to switch to tty1 I briefly saw a stack dump before the screen went entirely black (not off). Would you like a dmesg or a drm debug log?
