That means there is a very fundamental difference between my first and my second report, namely a number of xrandr commands executed when docking and un-docking in the second, but not in the first scenario (since no udev support). One bug is then, I guess, the non-graceful handling of the non-udev situation, but do not seem to be the reason for the other glitches I observed.
