Adam, the "slow boot" in your case may be caused by this:

refined-jiffies
In my case the clocksource was also switching to refined-jiffies which made
huge timing issues, i worked around it by sticking with tsc (added
clocksource=tsc cmdline) because in my case hpet is not available, probably due
to buggy BIOS.</pre>
