I'm afraid that I don't have the GPU dump, but if something like this happens again, I now have a better idea of how to get the dump. You were right about the versions I have - "glxinfo" gives "OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 10.1.3" and my graphics chipset is an even older 4th gen - "GM965/GL960". And I was running Chromium ("chromium-browser --version" gives "Chromium 39.0.2171.65 Ubuntu 14.04"). I've updated to the Mesa 10.5 drivers, and so hopefully this won't occur again.
