I now though, I might want to do it differently. So I replaced trusty by vivid in /etc/apt/sources.list deb <a href="http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu">http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu</a> vivid main I then executed "apt-get install update" followed by sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg (output attached) This brings the login screen back. Unfortunally w/ the grafic erros.
