Since crashing is a bit random, I can't say for sure if this the patch or just luck, but it is promising. Are there other cases where the code does it the old way, or did that one stick out as unique? If indeed it did fix the issue, it would be good to change it globally. I did not analyze the fix - let me know what the difference is if you have time.
