did you try the mplayer's mpeg2 movie?

(http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/MPEG2/dothack2.mpg) for me, it plays in green
mostly.

I use just:
mplayer -cache 8192 http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/MPEG2/dothack2.mpg
