Hi, I'm assuming no one got my posts (I sent 2) as I didn't get any responses??

Basically I have a weird situation with my GPU and screen.

Under Gnome2 the resolution is fine but under KDE4 it's like the menus, panels, and windows are running in 1024x768 res with the rest of the screen in 1280x800??

Also the dmesg log shows that the driver has defaulted to the i915, and as it stands I have some strange color distortion or discoloration on my desktop which looks a bit pixelated and also sometimes it seems that the screen wipes from bottom to top like the wrong refresh rate on an old CRT display - or when watching a CRT on TV due to the differences in refresh frequencies.

If anyone can help or advice I would really appreciate it!!

Kaya
Subject: Intel Express 4500MHD GFX resolution not correct on HP Compaq 2230s

Hi,

can anyone help me with video resolution issues??

Yesterday I bought an HP Compaq 2230s laptop with a Mobile IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD chip inside it only for some reason I am getting 1024x768 resolution super imposed o
nto my 1280x800 capable widescreen.

I used to have the same issue with my other laptop, an older Intel 855G chipset but now as the GFX driver has got better so has the resolution.

The strange part with my HP is that everything tells me that the system is running in 1280x800 mode only I can tell it's not as text and windows are far wider then usual and in a direct comparison with my older laptop running at 1280x800 res the HP looks stretched and fonts are large. Actually the immediate tell tale sign was from the KDE4 Konsole window as I have 81 width on my older laptop and I manage to get 2 terminal windows side by side when now the Konsole of the same width takes up 2/3s of the screen....

I am running Kubuntu 9.04 64 bit on it with the Xorg-xserver-intel driver installed as default.

I managed to set the correct resolution twice so far by powering up into init level 1 (single user mode or recovery mode) then running: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

However every time I logged out, restarted or shut down at that point the machine reset back to 1024x768 over 1200x800 widescreen.

This is driving me nuts=2
0as I can't run things properly as they don't have the correct dimensions!!

my lspci shows this:
