Since the last line of your x log is "initializing GLX", so try disable GLX and DRI. I switched to using a DVI cable instead of a VGA cable. Previously I was using a VGA cable (conneted to the DisplayLink device via a DVI to VGA adapter) and it would lock up VMware Workstation and the host Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit system until I killed the power or did the alt+sysreq "R.S.E.I.N.U.B." mnemonic. For reference my DisplayLink device is a "Sewell USB External Video Card". So, back to the original issue and since I found out the DVI to VGA adapter might be the culprit: I then tried adding the DisplayLink device back to the host system's xorg.conf but it's still crashing X.
