I can not reproduce on Mac OSX 10.6.6 with FR langpack installed. I can save
files, e.g. a Writer document, with the following characters :

àçèôéî.odt

and it saves fine and re-opens just fine. Are you saving the file to anywhere
other than a local hard disk, say a NFS or SMB share ?
