Put some Text into a cell.
right click this cell
format cells
Alignment
Text orientation 90°
Vertical "middle"

The entered text is invisible unless you change the text orientation to
something diffrent then 90° or change vertical to something else than middle.

Testet on Ubuntu 10.4 x86-64
LibreOffice 3.3.1 & 3.3.2
