odt document with formula and screenshots showing what is get after formula
modification

Insert a formula in a paragraph of a Writer document using
Insert->Object->Formula.

While editing the formula, the height of its frame in the document may vary and
become larger than the final size. After closing the edition of the formula,
the height of its frame keeps the largest value obtained during edition. This
may give a large white space between the formula and the next paragraph. This
whit space cannot be removed.

Save and close the document, then re-open the document: the frame of the
formula has now the correct height without withe space between the formula and
the next paragraph. So the problem concerns only the document edition: you do
not see what you will get after saving!

Added an odt document including a formula and two screenshots showing what you
get after formula modification and what you get after saving, closing and
re-opening the document. Please try to modify the formula with LibO 352
according the screenshots: remove the denominator and the fraction bar and see
what happens.
