On pc Debian x86-64, with master sources (updated today) or 3.6 branch (updated
2 days ago), I haven't reproduced the crash.
Could you give a screenshot of the area you select (perhaps I
missed/misunderstood something) ?
Does it happen only with this area ?

Did you try with a brand new LO profile (see
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) ? (backup yours before).
