On Linux/Mac, LibreOffice has nice, 3d animated slideshow transitions (see the
Slide Transition pane to your right - select one of the last transitions).

It's all opengl in the end, which in principle works on windows, too - just
someone needs to hook up the windows opengl specifics (wgl) here:

 slideshow/source/engine/OGLTrans/win/
