I am having similar problems. Ubuntu 10.10 amd64, LibreOffice 3.4.5 
OOO340m1 (Build:502).

I'm mostly using webm format videos. I can insert them, and they play in the presentation. I can resize them one time without problems. But usually if I try to
resize a second time, then LibreOffice freezes. Not only that but my entire X windows session freezes. I have to resort to switching to VT1 and doing killall
soffice.bin.

Possibly relevant: dual monitor setup, nvidia driver 260.19.06, Lenovo ThinkPad T410
