After enabling the grid in Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Grid, it is barely visible, limiting its use.

Pehraps instead of single pixel a pixel cross could be used to implement the grid view, replacing eac pixel. Here is a visualization of such cross ("_" would
be blank/background):
