What size is the file that you copied to your local hard disk ? Is it the same
size as your remote disk file ?

The general I/O error that you reported originally is a known "problem" of NFS
locking on mounted remote shares (e.g. NAS disks). You have to change the NFS
mount and locking options to avoid that particular problem. 

However, if it still fails with the same error, there must be some other
underlying problem, e.g. the file on your local disk isn't read/write
accessible, or is corrupt. In any case, the file you uploaded to the bug report
opens just fine for me on Mac OSX, which is why I am asking you all of these
questions.
