Now that two people have confirmed that deleting the user folder solves this
issue, can someone please debug in that direction?

BTW what is the workaround to avoid losing the settings? I have done a lot of
customization, and would hate to lose all that hard work. Is there some way to
export the settings and import them after the new version starts working?

I Googled to look for solution, but they only talk about copying the user
folder; which probably will start the issue once again!
