I just tried to reproduce again and was suddenly unable to.  This would have
been quite frustrating except for the comment earlier about a class of
application that typically causes crashes.  I had recently stopped using one
called "Automation" which provides a few different utility functions such as a
multi-clipboard.

I already knew that app had some incompatibilities with LibreOffice because it
would cause massive resource drain and hang my system if I ever attempted to
copy/paste a column in a spreadsheet.  It appeared to be trying to copy every
row in the sheet including blank ones.

I restarted Automation and then I was able to reproduce the crash without a
problem.

So for me, this issue was definitely due to software conflict.
