self-sufficient word processing file

This is the file save dialogue box used to export the Master Document as a
normal word processing file
Problem description: A major use of master documents is to consolidate multiple
word processing files so that they can be exported as a single, self-sufficient
word-processing file that can then be distributed to others without the
component files. The expectation is that the "export" function would work, in
this respect, like the "Export PDF" function, which does produce a
self-sufficient file. However, if one exports the Master Document as a
word-processing file and attempts to open that, one finds that the resulting
file still needs to load all the original component documents. It is not ready
to distribute as a single file until every the link to every component document
is manually broken: a step that is NOT included in the help file under "Master
Documents," which says just
1. Choose File - Export.
2. In the File format list, select a text document file format and click
Export.
At the very least, the help function should include these additional
instructions (source:
http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/office_guides/openoffice_3_writer_user_guide/openoffice_writer_Creating_one_file_from_a_master_document.html):
3. Choose Edit > Links from the menu bar.
If the Links command is greyed-out, the cursor is probably in a write-protected
part of the document (for example, in one of the linked documents). Move the
cursor into a part of the document that is not write-protected; the Links
command then becomes available.
4. The Edit Links dialog shows all the linked files. Select all the files in
the Source file list and click Break Link. This step embeds (includes) the
contents of all the subdocuments into one single file (but with each
subdocument remaining in a separate section) and removes the write protection
on the sections.
Ideally, though, the option should exist to export the file as a single,
self-sufficient document without steps 3 and 4, as this would be the most
common purpose for the export.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a Master Document
2. Select File/Export...
3. In the file save dialogue box, select "ODF Text Document" as the file type
4. Click the "Save Button"
5. Close the file
6. Open the exported document
Current behavior: Upon opening, a dialogue box asks "Would you like to
...update all links to get the most recent data."
Expected behavior: The dialogue box would not appear because the exported file
would have no surviving links to other documents.
Platform (if different from the browser):
Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/14.0.1
