I had to install libreoffice-common before being able to launch this command.
Launching it then produced the window shown in the screenshot.

Moreover, after this experiment, when I now launch LO from its icon in the task
panel, the form that appears once LO is running is now different: It is no
longer the familiar blue page, but a black page on black background. I would
much prefer to get that fixed.
