Can't answer wrt updates, but we certainly don't do crash reports in the sense
that LO's crashreporter isn't activated. When an app crashes on macOS, the OS
provides an Apple system dump of the process at the moment it crashed, and
offers to send this to Apple...which I imagine most people ignore, or perhaps
they do send it to Apple, but who knows what happens to it after that.

In a separate bug report I re-closed today, someone posted the Apple trace
dump, in which clearly the update thread check was fingered as the culprit at
the time of the crash. Unfortunately, we'd probably need a debug version output
to find out more.
