Steps with attachment 109831:
1. View - Master Slide
2. Select the text box of footer
3. In Sidebar, Properties, Character, change the font from Arial to something
else and size too for good measure
4. Save as PPT and reload

The text retains the desired font family and size, but if you go to View -
Master Slide and select the text box, it has Arial/18 as its properties.
