the most effective result of such mass ping is: annoying those taking time to
report a bug (and never get an individual reply, a confirmation of the bug
etc.)
A lot of them will never ever take their spare time to report a bug in the bug
tracker again. And they will also tell their colleagues and friends about their
experience.
