I still can't change original field, but it works to insert a new field:
1. Strg+F2 => Variables
2. Type = Number range | Select = Abbildung | Format = Arabic (Value is empty)

=> RESIÓLVED WOKRSFORME
Wilfried, feel free to change it back to NW with a short reasoning, if you
disagree.

Additional information:
Better solution is to work with AutoCaptions (Tools => Options => LibreOffice
Writer => AutoCaption
