Since the proposed example was reiterated as a prime example of the issue, I'll
ask again, Is there a reason why modifying the settings for the section in the
master document to which the subdocument is linked wouldn't work as designed to
set the background for that section to match the linked document? Given your
example and my understanding of it, I fail to comprehend the problem.
