You are probably talking about the Navigator (attached screenshot) and the main
menu Window. Both should have a limit on how many items are shown at once but
at least 14 open modules are shown at a quick test.

And I like the idea to add a separator between desktops. But doubt it's easy to
read from the OS/DE.

Regarding the last session, different topic, we should place the window at the
same position, not only x/y but also on the right desktop (and switch the
view). Sounds again quite difficult.
