It was no problem to configure/make/make install LightDM 1.16.3. But I'm struggling to get it running. I've snarfed the systemd service definition from the 1.6 RPMs I found, and that works. But lightdm exists after writing this to STDERR (it appears in /var/log/messages, fortunately): Failed to use bus name org.freedesktop.DisplayManager, do you have appropriate permissions? I tried strace-ing, but are only some binary messages being exchanged before this, and I have no idea how to tackle this. I.e. I have not the faintest about DBus.
