Colleagues are hitting this bug, so I started wondering...

EGLConfigs carry the X11 Visual id, right? Would it not be possible to add more
EGLConfigs, otherwise equivalent to the current ARGB8888 configs, but having
the magic alpha visual? These would be sorted after the opaque ARGB8888
configs, so they hopefully would not be picked up by default. Then apps, who
really want the magic alpha, could manually look for the right native visual id
in the configs to get it.

It would be an X11-only solution/hack, but is there something fundamentally
wrong with it?
