Unfortunately, none of the people reading this bug are likely to be able to
help: Mesa is the 3D driver, which doesn't affect display resolution.

It's likely that you just need a newer kernel.  You might try that.

Alternatively, since you say it works with other distributions, you might
consider filing a bug with the Debian project:
