Since buffer_swap is the newest feature it's the lest painful place to make a
change. Changing the way old-school functions work is a bad idea, even if you
think you can language-lawyer your way into it by saying "use the new modern
API". This change is so trivial I would be amazed if you chose another option.</pre>
